The good news for former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez (pictured) is that he’ll get the rematch with Fabricio Werdum that he’s been wanting. The bad news for Velasquez is Werdum no longer owns the belt that he stole from Velasquez in their initial encounter.
It has been announced that Velasquez and Werdum will meet December 30 at UFC 207. T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada hosts the festivities.
After losing his title to Werdum in June 2015, Velasquez rebounded nicely 13 months later by posting a dominant TKO victory over Travis Browne. Velasquez has won five of his last six scraps.
Werdum didn’t hold the gold long, as he was dusted by current champ Stipe Miocic in his next outing. Coincidentally, Werdum also bounced back from a title loss by beating Browne. He outpointed Mr. Ronda Rousey in September at UFC 203 for a unanimous decision win.
Speaking of Rousey, she’s slated to end her 13-month hiatus by challenging bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes in the show’s featured attraction.
Here is the card’s current lineup:
Brandon Thatch vs. Sabah Homasi
Matt Brown vs. Tarec Saffiedine
Cain Velasquez vs. Fabricio Werdum
Ronda Rousey vs. Amanda Nunes (UFC bantamweight champion)
