“No Love” has just received a ton of love, and UFC 207 has just received it’s co-main event. On Monday, it was announced Cody Garbrandt has been granted his wish and will challenge bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz (pictured) in the December 30 event.
Garbrandt is one of the UFC’s fastest rising stars with a perfect 10-0 professional record. The 25-year-old has finished off all but one of his victims via some form of knockout.
Garbrandt has been clamoring for a crack at Cruz since violently putting veteran Takeya Mizugaki down at UFC 202 in August. He claimed he came THIS close to putting Cruz’s chin to the test backstage after the win.
Cruz, meanwhile, reclaimed the bantamweight throne that was stripped from him due to countless injuries by beating TJ Dillashaw in January. He successfully defended his gold against a familiar foe in his next outing by outpointing bitter rival Urijah Faber in June at UFC 199.
This marks the card’s second championship affair, as former women’s bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey returns from a 13-month hiatus to challenge champ Amanda Nunes for her crown in the show’s featured attraction.
UFC 207 takes place inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Here is the card’s current lineup:
Brandon Thatch vs. Sabah Homasi
Matt Brown vs. Tarec Saffiedine
Cain Velasquez vs. Fabricio Werdum
Cody Garbrandt vs. Dominick Cruz (UFC bantamweight champion)
Ronda Rousey vs. Amanda Nunes (UFC bantamweight champion)
