Former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin underwent successful hernia surgery last week in Ohio. There is currently no timetable for his return, however Team Franklin is confident he’ll be back better than ever.

“No complications, no surprises,” Franklin’s manager, J.T. Stewart, told MMAJunkie.com of the January 12th procedure. “He is fine.”

Franklin was last seen getting knocked out by middleweight top contender Vitor Blfort at UFC 103 last September. Although he was busy headlining four UFC fight cards last year, Stewart states that his client intends to take the first few months of 2010 off.

The former 185-pound king is hoping to make a return sometime in the spring, preferably the May 1st card if he can get cleared in time to put together a solid training camp.

UFC 113 is being rumored to take place in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on that date. The rumor mill has the re-match between light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua slated as the main event.
