It’s not the championship affair that was initially scheduled to headline Saturday’s UFC 206 event inside Air Canada Centre in Toronto, but a title will be on the line, nonetheless. Albeit, a desperately manufactured interim one.
Red hot Max Holloway (pictured) faces former WEC and UFC lightweight champ Anthony Pettis for the interim featherweight crown in the show’s featured attraction after light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier was forced to pull out of the main event against Anthony Johnson with a torn groin.
Holloway and Pettis weren’t initially going to compete for a belt, but the UFC needed to try and salvage the deplete card and decided to up the ante.
Donald Cerrone and Matt Brown will meet in the co-main event. It will be interesting to see how Cerrone’s battered left eye has healed, though. It didn’t look too good during last Wednesday’s MMAAA announcement.
