Former UFC star Michael McDonald has signed a multifight contract with Bellator MMA.
Bellator announced their latest signing Friday via Twitter.
Financial terms of McDonald’s new deal were not disclosed.
McDonald wasted no time in finding a new home after negotiating his release from the UFC last week. While the 26-year-old is just entering the prime of his career, the UFC was willing to cut McDonald loose with several fights remaining on his contract.
“Mayday” was one of the division’s fastest rising stars just five years ago. After starting out his professional record with a stellar 15-1 mark, he was submitted by Renan Barao for the interim UFC bantamweight title.
He lost two of his next four bouts after that and missed all of 2014 and 2015 with hand and wrist injuries.
McDonald was most recently seen getting knocked out cold by John Lineker in July.
It is unknown when McDonald will make his Bellator debut.
