Watch “UFC 210 Countdown: Cormier vs. Johnson II” before Saturday’s fight.
In their initial encounter two years ago, Anthony Johnson came THIS close to putting Daniel Cormier (pictured) to sleep in the first round at UFC 187. While Johnson’s overhand right sent Cormier to the canvas, it didn’t land clean enough so Johnson could put the finishing touches on him.
Cormier recovered nicely and used his superior wrestling to grind Johnson down before ultimately submitting him with a rear-naked choke in the third round to capture the vacant UFC light heavyweight crown.
“DC” admitted that he’ll once again be in the danger zone in the first round in Saturday’s rematch, but warned Johnson that once it goes past five minutes, it’s a done deal. Johnson, the most physically intimidating man in the 205-pound division, has a history of slowing down as fights progress due to his massive muscles.
Can Cormier weather the early storm and retain his throne? Can Johnson prove his rival wrong and prove his gas tank isn’t what it typically is?
UFC 210 goes down inside KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York.
