Former UFC welterweight champ Robbie Lawler (pictured) will fight Donald Cerrone at UFC 213.
I know, you’ve heard this before when they were initially slated to collide at UFC 205, only to watch Lawler bow out, but it’s for real this time.
UFC president Dana White confirmed the rebooking Monday with ESPN.com’s Brett Okamoto.
After putting pen to paper for their original tango, Lawler decided to pull out because he needed more time to recover from July 30th’s vicious knockout loss to Tyron Woodley which cost him his welterweight crown.
Lawler had rattled off five consecutive victories prior to getting put to sleep by Woodley.
Cerrone was white hot having won four straight after moving up to the welterweight division. His impressive streak was brought to a screeching halt when Jorge Masvidal TKO’d him in January.
This bout would certainly have had greater significance had Cerrone not suffered his setback against MAsbidal, but a win is still imperative for both fighters.
UFC 213 takes place July 8 in Las Vegas.
