It took a couple of days for Jon Jones to respond to Alexander Gustafsson’s harsh comments, but Jones returned fire Wednesday night on Twitter.
Shortly after knocking out Glover Teixeira on Sunday, Gustafsson said Jones is “not a champion in my eyes. He’s not a good person in my eyes.
“That’s why I always tell you guys, I hope [Daniel Cormier] wins because I like the guy. He’s a worthy champion. That’s what I mean when I say that, [Jones is] the biggest enemy of all time.”
After several delays, Jones and UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will finally meet July 29 at UFC 214. Jones cruised to a unanimous decision victory over Cormier in their initial encounter at UFC 185. However, Jones has been out of action since last April due to his troubles outside the cage.
Jones is the most decorated light heavyweight champion in UFC history, but just can’t seem to get out of his own way. The UFC has stripped Jones of his title, then interim title, for various issues.
After catching wind of Gustafsson’s remarks, Jones took several shots at Gustafsson:
Of course you are rooting for Daniel Gus, you might as well pray for him while you're at it.

And here's a little FYI, you didn't lose against DC and I because of your cardio, it was because your lack of heart.

I'm not a champion because you don't like my personality? Fuck you lol

I'm not a champion cuz I'm a bad person? you're not a champion because you don't win championship fights.

Gustafsson must have been perusing his Twitter timeline last night, because he decided to chime in. Jones was quick to counter:
Lol keep telling yourself that my son https://t.co/Iv0HoAJss5

Is it me or does this shit make zero sense? https://t.co/LXakpJnB2w

After that brief exchange, Jones was done bashing Gustafsson for the time being:
Next time if you don't have anything nice to say, you know the rest. I'm done with you for now

Gustafsson is hoping his impressive finish over Teixeira is good enough to earn him the winner of Cormier-Jones 2. The Swede is the only man to have made Jones look beatable inside the octagon.
Jones escaped with a controversial decision win over Gustafsson in September 2013.
On a side note, props to Jones for not pulling a Jon Jones by posting and deleting his comments.
