Matt Mitrione KO’s Fedor Emelianenko At Bellator NYC (Video)

It was as though Matt Mitrione vs. Fedor Emelianenko came straight out of a movie scene.

In fact, Saturday’s fight kind of was. When the two heavyweights simultaneously knocked each other down with matching right hands, it reminded many of the final shot in “Rocky III” when Rocky Balboa repaid a debut to Apollo Creed by meeting in one final bout.

The movie ended in a freeze frame of both fighters unleashing punches to each other’s dome.

While it’s unknown what happened in Balboa and Creed’s top secret fight after the simultaneous strikes, we do know what occurred after Mitrione and Emelianenko dropped to the canvas.

Mitrione was able to recover quicker and pounced on his fallen foe. After a few bombs on the ground, Emelianenko’s Bellator debut was over before it ever really began.

America proved once again to be hostile territory for the Russian. Emelianenko, who owns an impressive 36-5 (1 NC) professional MMA record, has seen his last four losses all come on US soil.

It is unknown if Emelianenko, who turns 41 in September, plans on resuming his illustrious career.

The scrap was the co-main event of Bellator’s pay-per-view, so the finish has not been (legally) made available for replay. However, you can watch the unusual sequence of them landing punches at the same time.
