UFC 213’s worst nightmare has come to fruition just hours before showtime.
UFC president Dana White has confirmed multiple reports that women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes (pictured) has been pulled from tonight’s main event against arch rival Valentina Shevchenko.
According to MMA reporter Ariel Helwani, Nunes “has been feeling ill this week. She’s currently in the hospital. Tonight’s main event is in jeopardy. No official word yet.”
It is unknown what is causing “The Lioness” to feel under the weather.
Nunes posted a unanimous decision victory over Shevchenko just 15 months ago. There has been no love lost between the ladies since their initial encounter.
It is unknown if Nunes or Shevchenko will receive their show money.
Middleweights Yoel Romero and Robert Whittaker, who meet for the vacant interim title, has been bumped to the main event. Former heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum and Alistair Overeem will now co-headline the gig.
T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada hosts the festivities.
