Just when you thought UFC 215 couldn’t get any worse. Saturday’s main event between flyweight king Demetrious Johnson and Ray Borg has been canceled.

Borg has been ill all week and UFC doctors won’t clear him to compete Saturday.

“Due to a viral illness to UFC flyweight contender Ray Borg, the main event bout against champion Demetrious Johnson at UFC 215 has been cancelled. Borg was deemed unfit to compete by the UFC medical team,” the UFC expressed in Friday’s statement.

The organization said customers can request a full refund of purchased tickets at point of sale.

There were grumblings Borg wouldn’t be able to make weight for the 125-pound affair, and now he won’t even be able to make it to Friday’s weigh-ins to come in heavy.

According to Borg’s nutritionist, weight cutting was not the cause of his withdrawal. However, it’s never a good thing for fighters to deplete their bodies in order to hit their mark on the scale.

It’s unfortunate news for Johnson, who would have set a UFC record with 11 consecutive title defenses had he put down Borg. In addition, it is unknown if Johnson will receive his show money for the bout after undergoing a full training camp.

Oh yeah, and Johnson will miss out on his piece of the show’s pay-per-view buys. On the flipside, it’s not as though this is a box office event.

It is highly unlikely Borg will see any money from the promotion for UFC 215.

The co-main event between women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko gets bumped to the show’s top spot. Ironically, Nunes pulled out of her UFC 213 main event bout against Shevchenko when she fell ill on gameday.

UFC 215 goes down inside Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
