Former IFL welterweight champion Jay Hieron will be taking on Jason High at Affliction Entertainment’s second-ever MMA event on January 24th at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Hieron was slated to face Drew Fickett when the card was initially scheduled for October 11th, however the change in date forced Fickett to find work elsewhere. Hieron is coming off of an impressive victory over Chris Kennedy at “Night of Combat II” just last month.
Hieron was once considered a top level competitor in the 170-pound division, and since joining UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture’s Xtreme Couture camp in Las Vegas just a few years ago, he finally seems to be living up to those expectations. Hieron has won six of his last seven bouts, and is currently riding a four fight winning streak.
Little known High holds a perfect 6-0 professional record, however Hieron will be his toughest test to date. The most notable win in his young MMA career came against UFC fighter Kevin Burns just last year. Burns defeated up-and-coming UFC welterweight Anthony Johnson at “UFC Fight Night 14” this past July.
