UFC 91 is officially over, as UFC Heavyweight champion Randy Couture made his long awaited return to the Octagon to take on the up-and-coming superstar, Brock Lesnar. Couture walked into the event holding the UFC belt, but unfortunately for him, it was Lesnar that left with it. Matt Brown Defeated Ryan Thomas via Submission (Armbar) at 0:57 in the 2ndRound
Mark Bocek Defeated Alvin Robinson via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) at 3:16 in the 3rdRound
Jeremy Stephens Defeated Rafael dos Anjos via KO (Punch) at 0:39 in the 3rdRound
Aaron Riley Defeated Jorge Gurgel via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
Damian Maia Defeated Nate Quarry via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) at 2:13 in the 1stRound
1stRound: Damian Maia immediately shoots in for a takedown and is able to get in full-mount as he easily takes Quarry’s back and secures a body triangle across Quarry’s body. Maia finally sinks in a rear naked choke after Quarry attempted to fight off the choke and wins via submission.
Gabriel Gonzaga Defeated Josh Hendricks via TKO (Strikes) at 1:01 in the 1stRound
1stRound: Gabriel Gonzaga starts by landing the more devastating strikes and then finally lands a straight punch that drops Hendricks and he follows with two more punches until the referee steps in and stops it.
Dustin Hazelett Defeated Tamdan McCrory via Submission (Armbar) at 3:59 in the 1stRound
1stRound: Tamdan McCrory starts the fight with a nice flurry with a couple of punches landing but Dustin Hazelett is able to withstand it and attempt a flying knee that McCrory is able to avoid. Hazelett lands a big right hand but McCrory ends up shaking it off. McCrory is starting to land nice leg kicks that are allowing him to maintain his distance. Hazelett goes for an omoplata and gets McCrory’s arm locked in and gets a tapout.
Kenny Florian Defeated Joe Stevenson via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) at 4:03 in the 1stRound
1stRound: Kenny Florian uses his superior muay-thai to hit Stevenson a few times but Stevenson was able to fight back and land a few strikes of his own as he shoots in for a takedown up against the cage. Stevenson finally gets a takedown but Florian is quickly able to get back up as he pushes Stevenson off as he is able to get back to the stand-up. Florian is circling as Stevenson is pushing forward but Florian scores the takedown and gets into the full-mount. Florian takes Stevenson’s back and is able to lock-in a rear naked choke and gets Joe “Daddy” to tapout.
Brock Lesnar Defeated Randy Couture via TKO (Strikes) at 3:07 in the 2ndRound
1stRound: Both fighters start in the clinch with Lesnar being pushed up against the cage. Lesnar is able to circle away and push Couture up against the cage as Couture is able to separate and land a straight right punch. Lesnar shoots in for a single-leg takedown and is able to get into Couture’s half-guard up against the cage. It’s obvious that Lesnar has a massive size advantage as Lesnar lays on top of Couture and works on his position. With Couture’s right arm trapped under his left leg, Lesnar is able to land a couple of punches as Couture attempts to get back to his feet and in the clinch up against the cage. (Lesnar wins the 1stRound 10-9 based off of takedowns)
2ndRound: The two heavyweights start on their feet with a Lesnar elbow stunning Couture as he is able to push Lesnar up against the cage to buy some time. Couture is able to land a knee and some strikes of his own as he opens up a cut over Brock’s right eye. Both fighters are landing good strikes as Couture continues to push Lesnar against the cage. Lesnar delivers a well-placed strike to Couture’s temple that stuns him as he falls to the mat. Lesnar pounces on top of him as the referee was forced to step in and stop the fight.
