The New York Jets have just fined their head coach Rex Ryan $50,000 for telling hostile Miami Dolphins fans that his Jets were # 1 during this weekend’s “Strikeforce: Miami” event.

During a live Showtime interview inside the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida, Ryan egged-on the boisterous crowd by telling them his Jets would sweep their Dolphins next season.

“I’d like to thank everybody here in Miami. I know they love me,” Ryan said with a grin. “I want to just tell everybody in Miami, hey, we’re coming to beat you twice next year.”

The booing was so loud, much of Ryan’s interview could not be heard over the venue’s sound system. No telling what the magic words were that ultimately caused Ryan to flip the bird, but it was caught on a cellphone camera and grew TMZ-like legs from there.

Ryan issued an apology yesterday stating his actions were “stupid and inappropriate.”

Last season was Ryan’s first with the Jets and managed to take his squad to the AFC Championship game, however dropped both regular season games to the Dolphins.
