Yesterday, Kim Couture, wife of UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture, was granted a restraining order against Affliction co-founder Todd Beard. The female Couture filed the restraining order claiming that Beard, their business partner, has been “terrorizing” both she and Randy after they had asked for Affliction’s “accounting of profits.” Today, Beard’s attorney Michael Bassiri states that Couture’s claims are “complete nonsense.”
“I think they took his statements incorrectly that there was any sort of physical harm implied,” Bassiri stated in the Orange County Register. “He didn’t threaten them. It was only regarding a business relationship.”
In Couture’s restraining order, she makes references to Beard’s criminal past, which the newspaper was able to clarify.
According to the OCRegister, Beard is scheduled to be sentenced on January 29th in Bellflower, California after pleading no contest to making misdemeanor criminal threats. Bassiri states that the threats resulted from a heated poker game.
Also, court records show that Beard was convicted of various crimes in 1993, 1995, and 2000.
In 1993, Beard was convicted in Arizona of forgery and illegal telemarketing. Then in 1995, he was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in federal prison following a California conviction of federal mail and wire fraud. In 2000, Beard served additional jail time in a California county jail after being convicted of driving while under the influence.
