This is an awkward feeling for the former UFC Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight champion of the world. Randy Couture is used to pulling throw in fights that he himself knows that he shouldn’t win. At the tender age of 45, Couture stepped into the Octagon at a weight disadvantage of more than 45lbs. as well as a 14 year age discrepancy.
Still though, Couture was looking to defy the odds as he has done so many times before. Against the likes of Tito Ortiz, Pedro Rizzo, Chuck Liddell, Tim Sylvia and many other, Couture was looking to do the unthinkable once again.
“I was feeling pretty good, feeling like thing were going pretty well. He’s got big old arms and hands and he caught me with one in our little flurry.” Couture explained after the fight.
He was looking good actually, up until Lesnar caught him with a straight right that seemed to have hit him in the back of the head, but the replay shows that it was just behind the ear and around the temple. The right spot at the right time.
“I’m not sure, my corner said it looked like he hit me behind the ear, but it’s hard to say,” was how Couture and his corner saw the fight altering punch.
It was definitely the punch heard round the world because ESPN gave UFC 91 massive coverage. As did the rest of the mainstream world with newspapers and other media outlets covering the event. The UFC is growing and they have a new superstar on their hands, but they also still have Randy Couture, a guy who many think can give Fedor Emelianenko a run for his money.
