In a recent conversation with Sherdog.com, former NFL running back Herschel Walker said that he’d be open to fighting again. In fact, he’s ready to participate in Strikforce’s upcoming April card on CBS.
“I got to be realistic in the sense that, for me, it really is a great idea (to return quickly) and the reason why is I’m not getting any younger,” Walker explained.
With Walker’s impressive 3rdRound TKO over Greg Nagy and “Strikeforce: Miami,” there is no doubt the San Jose-based organization wouldn’t want him back. According to the report, CEO Scott Coker will get in touch with Walker’s camp to see how interested they would be in getting him back into the cage.
Following his victorious MMA debut inside the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida, Walker stated that he’d only return if his American Kickboxing Academy camp felt that he should.
“I’m going to get back into the gym and say I’d love to have another fight, and I’m gonna work hard, but I’m leaving it my trainers and coaches hands and the fighters at the gym,” the 47-year old Walker said. “If they think I’m not ready, they gotta tell me, and I will swallow my pride and not do it.”
Strikeforce’s second CBS primetime broadcast is scheduled for April 24th, which would pretty much make him jump right back into training within the next couple of weeks if he wants a full training camp.
Considering Walker has been doing 2,500 sit-ups and 1,500 push-ups EVERY SINGLE DAY since high school, getting back in the gym shouldn’t be an issue for the soon-to-be 48-year-old.
