Eleven “UFC 109: Relentless” Fighters Receive Medical Suspensions

The Nevada State Athletic Commission has suspended 11 “UFC 109: Relentless” contestants for injuries sustained in their respective scraps this weekend inside the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Main event fighter and UFC Hall of Famer, Mark Coleman, will be forced to ride the pine for precautionary reasons stemming from his 2ndRound rear-naked submission loss to Randy Couture. Although the Commission is demanding he sit, the defeat likely marked the end of Coleman’s illustrious career.

Mark Coleman: Suspended until March 9 with no contact until Feb. 28 for precautionary reasons
Nate Marquardt: Suspended until March 9 with no contact until Feb. 28 for precautionary reasons
Chael Sonnen: Suspended until March 24 with no contact until March 9 due to forehead and nasal-bridge lacerations
Mike Swick: Suspended until Aug. 6 due to a possible left elbow injury, though can be cleared early by an orthopedic doctor; regardless, suspended until March 24 with no contact until March 9 for precautionary reasons
Demian Maia: Suspended until Aug. 6 due to an left vertical upper eyelid laceration, though can be cleared early by an ophthalmologist or ocular-plastics doctor
Dan Miller: Suspended until March 9 with no contact until Feb. 28 for precautionary reasons
Frank Trigg: Suspended until March 24 with no contact until March 9 for precautionary reasons
Mac Danzig: Suspended until Aug. 6 due to a possible left knee sprain, though can be cleared early by an orthopedic doctor
Justin Buchholz: Suspended until March 9 with no contact until Feb. 28 for precautionary reasons
Melvin Guillard: Must have ophthalmologic exam by March 26 or could be suspended indefinitely
Rolles Gracie: Suspended until March 9 with no contact until Feb. 28 for precautionary reasons
