It is being reported that Japanese middleweight Yoshihiro Akiyama will face the winner of the UFC 110 co-main event between Wanderlei Silva and Michael Bisping.

Fighter’s Only was the first to report on the news and goes on to say that if Silva happens to get past Bisping on February 20th, then a potential Akiyama vs. Silva bout would be put on a UFC card in Japan due to both fighters’ popularity in the Orient.

The UFC has tried for years to get back into Japan since the fall of PrideFC, but has had a tough go of it. With the help of the new Flash Entertainment agreement, the UFC hopes they can finally grow their promotion in Japan.

Akiyama’s superstar status combined with Silva’s long history of fighting in Japan, the UFC could bank on having a successful return to the Land of the Rising Sun.

Silva hasn’t competed since UFC 99 where he lost a unanimous decision to former middleweight champion Rich Franklin in a 195-pound catchweight bout.

Bisping is looking to continue his climb back up the middleweight ladder after beating Denis Kang at UFC 105, his first bout since being knocked unconscious by Dan Henderson at UFC 100.
