It appears as though Strikeforce’s newly crowned light heavyweight champion Rentao “Babalu” Sobral hasn’t eaten in months. After feasting on Bobby Southworth at this past weekend’s “Destruction” event, Babalu now looks to satisfy his hunger by having Tito Ortiz for dessert.
“It would be awesome,” Sobral stated about making his first title defense against Ortiz. “That would be great, that would be like a very good dessert.”
If Babalu considers Ortiz dessert, he must have viewed Southworth as a Happy Meal from McDonald’s, as he made quick work of the American Kickboxing Academy fighter.
“I tried to take him down, he showed high level skill, wrestling skill,” Babalu commented. “He defends very well against the cage and I couldn’t take him down, but I was comfortable on my back.”
Babalu was able to land a vicious elbow to Southworth’s right eye area, forcing doctor’s to stop the bout at the conclusion of the 1stRound.
“I’m happy to be the champion and I trained hard for this fight,” Sobral said. “Right now I’m the Strikeforce champion and I have to defend that.”
This isn’t the first time that Babalu called for a match against Ortiz. After his victory against Mike Whitehead at Affliction: “Banned,” Babalu stated that it would be his “dream” to get to face Ortiz.
There isn’t any known feud between the two fighters, however Babalu remains anxious to face his former UFC counterpart.
Ortiz is currently recovering from back surgery, and remains one of the hottest MMA free agents on the market.
