Competitive Partnership for Golden Boy and Affliction

Affliction Entertainment and Golden Boy Promotions announced their intentions to form a partnership back in September. Perhaps they are trying to re-define the term “partnership,” as the two promotions will be competing against one another on January 24th. Affliction will be holding their second-ever MMA promotion, which was supposed to be Golden Boy’s first co-promotion with the popular clothing company, however Golden Boy will also be promoting the Shane Mosley-Antonio Margarito fight that same night, just an hour down the road.

Earlier this month it was reported that the Mosley-Margarito fight was in jeopardy, however at last night’s Oscar De La Hoya-Manny Pacquiao bout, boxing promoter Bob Arum stated that Mosley vs. Margarito will be taking place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on Saturday, January 24.

Mosley is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, and Richard Schaefer, the company’s CEO, confirmed that the Mosley vs. Margarito matchup is in fact a “done deal.”

That now puts Golden Boy in direct competition with itself, as they will also be involved in the production and marketing of Affliction Entertainment’s “Day of Reckoning” pay-per-view event that same evening.

“Day of Reckoning” will be taking place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The event will be headlined by WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko defending his title against former UFC champ Andre Arlovski.
