Lightweight sensation Eddie Alvarez has signed with the MMA start up organization Bellator Fighting Championships. The BFC recently came to an agreement with ESPN Deportes to produce 12 two-hour shows, which will be aired on the network. Alvarez is the company’s first signing, however he is a significant one. Not only is he a Top 4 lightweight, but his Spanish speaking background will certainly help the BFC penetrate their niche market.
“The contract is signed and I got my advance,” Alvarez told iGuillotine.com.
The BFC and ESPN Deportes will be broadcasting a 12-week fight series starting in April, with tournaments for the featherweight, lightweight, welterweight, and middleweight divisions.
Before he fights for the BFC however, Alvarez will be competing for the little known Extreme Challenge on January 23rd. The Midwest-based MMA organization is owned and operated by Alvarez’ manager Monte Cox.
“The only thing I know 100 percent sure right now is Jan. 23 I’ll be fighting here in Atlantic City at the Tropicana,” Alvarez stated.
