Reports are surfacing that Affliction Entertainment is on the cusp of finalizing a heavyweight showdown between Josh Barnett and former/current EliteXC fighter Brett Rogers for their January 24th event. The promotion has been advertising Barnett’s participation on the card for months, however they have been unable to solidify an opponent. Although Rogers is still under contract to the financially plagued EliteXC, he was granted permission to participate at “Day of Reckoning.”
Barnett is a former UFC heavyweight champion, and also competed at Affliction’s first MMA event back in July. He was able to successfully avenge his loss to Pedro Rizzo, knocking him out in the 2ndRound.
Rogers, perhaps best known for being Kimbo Slice’s primary antagonizer, holds a perfect 8-0 record, finishing off all of his opponents before the final bell. However, the former tire salesman has never faced a fighter of Barnett’s caliber, as Barnett is one of the world’s most accomplished heavyweights.
FiveOuncesOfPain.com was informed by multiple sources close to the situation that Affliction Entertainment is close to securing this bout.
