Fighting & Entertainment Group, the parent company of Dream, announced that their middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi will be taking on Tatsuya Kawajiri at their “K-1 DYNAMITE!! 2008” event. However, the two will forego competing under MMA rules and abide by K-1’s kickboxing rules. K-1 is co-promoting the New Year’s Eve event, therefore the card will contain a combination of MMA and kickboxing matches.
Many thought that if Mousasi participated on the card, it would have been in an MMA capacity. He is fresh off of winning Dream’s middleweight Grand Prix Tournament at Dream.6 in September. However Mousasi is no stranger to K-1 kickboxing, as he has taken on kickboxing legends Peter Aerts, Semmy Schilt, Bob Sapp, Rick Roufus and Ray Mercer in the past.
The 35-year-old Kawajiri has had his struggles as a Mixed Martial Artist, however achieved great success over his 13-year kickboxing career. He has earned kickboxing titles in Thailand and Japan.
