The heavyweight rematch between Alistair Overeem and Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic, which was scheduled to take place at “K-1 Dynamite!! 2008,” has been canceled. Overeem confirmed that he turned in his signed fight agreement weeks ago, however, for unspecified reasons, Cro Cop has failed to do so. There is a chance that the bitter rivals will have an opportunity to square off somewhere down the line, however it will not be taking place on New Year’s Eve.

“Alistair is begging for this fight but this fight will not go ahead on New Year’s Eve at ‘Fields Dynamite!!’,” FEG executive Sadaharu Tanigawa stated about the cancelled rematch. “We will look to match them up on a different card.”

The two initially fought at Dream.6, where Overeem was overpowering Cro Cop throughout the 1stRound, however his over-aggressiveness ended up costing him a win.

While engaged in a body lock, Overeem landed an illegal knee to Cro Cop’s groin on two separate occasions. The second one left him laying on the mat for the entire 10 minute recovery period.  The shot seemed to incapacitate Cro Cop, and the fight was ruled a No Contest.

Tanigawa did mention that there is still a chance that the two could remain on the “Dynamite!!” card, however against different opponents.

It is being rumored that if Cro Cop does fight on New Year’s Eve, it would be against former PrideFC heavyweight Sergei Kharitonov.
