The WEC officially announced that their WEC 38 event will be held on January 25th, the day after Affliction Entertainment will be holding their second MMA event, “Day of Reckoning.” The event will be headlined by WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner defending his title against Donald Cerrone. Also, WEC golden boy Urijah Faber looks to get back on the winning track in a rematch against MMA veteran Jens Pulver.
WEC 38 will be held at the San Diego Sports Arena in San Diego, California. This is the first time that the WEC has ever held an MMA event on a Sunday, with the majority of their events, including tomorrow’s WEC 37, being held on Wednesdays.
Tickets for the event will go on sale this Thursday, December 4th, with prices ranging between $35 to $175. The WEC will be able to pack 16,000 fans into the San Diego Sports Arena.
Cerrone currently holds a 9-0 professional record with one no contest due to a failed drug test. He is 2-0 in the WEC, and posted a dominating unanimous decision victory over Rob McCullough at WEC 36.
Varner will be looking for his fifth consecutive victory and second successful title defense. He defeated Macrus Hicks via TKO in the 1stRound at WEC 35 back in August.
“I have a lot of respect for Cerrone, but I consider him just one more undefeated fighter that I have to put in his place,” stated Varner.
