Former UFC heavyweight champion and PrideFC superstar Josh Barnett will be taking on Gilbert Yvel at Affliction Entertainment’s second MMA event, “Day of Reckoning.” Yvel is fresh off of signing a three-fight contract with Affliction, and hopes to make a splash in his debut.
Yvel may not be well known here in the States, however he has fought in over 48 professional MMA bouts overseas. He has won his last seven fights, all ending via TKO, except one in which he ended via submission.
Barnett, who avenged his loss to Pedro Rizzo at Affliction’s debut event in July, has rolled off three consecutive victories. He looked dominating in his win over Rizzo, and the 31-year-old seems to have found his form once again.
Affliction considered many opponents for Barnett. Initially they offered him an opportunity to headline the event against WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko, however the two sides were unable to make the numbers work out. Emelianenko is now headlining the event against former UFC champ Andrei Arlovski.
“Day of Reckoning” will be taking place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on January 24th. The event will be a two- part broadcast, with at least two preliminary bouts airing live for free on HDNet. That will immediately be followed by the pay-per-view portion of the broadcast.
