Wanderlei Silva UFC 110 Strategy: “I’m Going to Try to Copy [Dan] Henderson”

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then Wanderlei Silva must REALLY admire Dan Henderson as the Brazilian states he intends to re-create Hendo’s award winning knockout of Michael Bisping when he meets the Brit this weekend at UFC 110.

“Henderson gave me the way to beat him,” Silva told MMAWeekly.com. “I’m going to try to copy Henderson. I know the way to beat Bisping. I have a good game plan.”

Well Wandy, as sophisticated as your strategy sounds, that very same blueprint is what has has cost you losses in five of your last six fights. However, it’s that all-or-nothing mentality that has earned you your legendary status, so there are choices to be made.

Although his game plan is pretty simple, he’s done some extensive research on his UFC 110 foe. Silva believes he knows what to expect from Bisping, who bounced back nicely from his devastating UFC 100 loss to Henderson by taking a TKO of his own over Denis Kang in his last outing.

“I’ve studied his game. I know all movements. I’m ready for him,” Silva said. “In his head he thinks he’s going to get me with the takedown and want to fight me like he did in the 2ndRound with Denis Kang. It’s not going to happen. He’s going to need to fight with me in stand-up. He’s never going to take me to the ground.”

Despite not winning back-to-back fights in three-and-a-half years, the 33-year-old Silva believes his recent drop to the middleweight division will help prolong his illustrious career and he’s ready to show his mettle once again.

“I feel great. I feel my technique growing up; my cardio is amazing. I feel really, really, really good,” Silva stated. “I need to prove [myself all over again] and I’m going to prove that I’m ready for this.”
