UFC fighter Diego Sanchez has been recovering from a torn rib cage which he suffered during training in October. The injury forced him to pull out of his welterweight showdown against Thiago Alves at UFC 90. However the fighter states that he is now fully recovered, back to training, and is intending to move down to the lightweight division.
“I’m training hard and will be dropping down to fight at 155,” Sanchez stated on his MySpace page.
Sanchez had been reluctant to make the move for quite some time, however seems open to the opportunities that the lighter weight class has to offer.
Many thought that his convincing loss to Jon Fitch at UFC 76 would have prompted him to make the change, however Sanchez opted to stay put and collected two more wins along the way. Fitch was able to easily smother the smaller Sanchez for much of the fight.
The UFC has yet to offer Sanchez another fight, in either the welterweight of lightweight division, since his injury. However, Sanchez is confident that he will be ready to face any opponent at any weight class when the time comes to return to the Octagon.
