Former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell states that fans can’t believe everything that they read. Despite reports that have surfaced within the past couple of weeks, Liddell claims that nobody from the UFC has approached him about facing UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva or taking on Randy Couture for a fourth time.
“Nobody’s talked to me at all about Randy or Anderson Silva in any recent talks,” Liddell told the British-based Fighters Only. “I know there was something about me fighting (Silva) in February, that’s definitely not true. I’m not fighting until March or April. The rumor about me and Randy in June, no one’s said a word to me, and I don’t want to wait until June to fight.”
Liddell hasn’t fought since being knocked out by Rashad Evens at UFC 88. Including that loss, the soon-to-be 39-year-old has dropped three of his last four contests.
The former champion already holds a two-to-one advantage over Couture, including knockouts in their two last meetings. Liddell would be open to going against Couture again, however doesn’t seem too keen on that matchup at this point in his career.
“…we’ll wait to see what happens and I’m gonna talk to Dana (White) about that,” Liddell said about Couture as his next Octagon opponent. “I haven’t heard anything about it. I don’t know where it came from or who was talking about it, but to me at this point it doesn’t make sense.”
