After much speculation, Martin Kampmann will be making his debut in the welterweight division against Alexandre Barros at UFC 93. It will be the UFC’s first ever event in Dublin, Ireland. Kampmann, who currently holds a 13-2 professional record and has compiled an impressive 4-1 record in the UFC’s middleweight class, will now look to test the waters in one of the UFC’s deepest divisions.
Kampmann’s only loss in the UFC was in his last bout against Nate Marquardt at UFC 85. Outside of that, he has been one of the division’s best fighters. Although he has experienced great success in the division, he is considered a small middleweight, and perhaps may be better suited as a big welterweight.
The Xtreme Couture fighter is fresh off of signing a four-fight contract extension with the UFC. He has been hampered with knee injuries in the past, which have caused him to miss extended periods of time, however seems to have been able to put that behind him.
Barros, who currently holds a 13-5 record, will be making his UFC debut. The Brazilian has won his last nine MMA bouts.
