UFC president Dana White stated that middleweight Thales Leites may be next in line to challenge champion Anderson Silva for his 180-pound title. At Tuesday’s “UFC Night Night 16” weigh-ins, White said that the Brazilian’s performance since entering the UFC has warranted title contention.
White said that although neither of the fighters have officially been offered the fight, a potential matchup could have them in the Octagon as early as February. UFC 95 is scheduled to take place on February 21st at the 02 Arena in London, England.
Leites lost to Martin Kampmann in his UFC debut, however has rolled off five consecutive UFC wins since. With a professional record of 14-1, it would be difficult for the UFC to find an opponent more worthy of a title fight.
Silva has been idle since his uneventful win over Patrick Cote at UFC 90. He has been linked as a potential opponent for former light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell, however Liddell states that the UFC has yet to offer him that fight.
