UFC lightweight Cory Hill underwent successful surgery to repair the broken leg he suffered in last night’s bout against Dale Hartt at “UFC Fight Night 16.” In the 2ndRound of their fight, Hill threw a right leg kick, however Hartt checked the kick with his knee and Hill’s shin instantly snapped in half. It was one of MMA’s most gruesome accidents.  The injury will cause Hill to be sidelined for the next 12-18 months.

“Hill is currently resting in the hospital with his family,” wrote Thomas Gerbasi of UFC.com. “The former ‘Ultimate Fighter’ standout is handling the injury well and is in good spirits a day after suffering the clean break to his right leg while throwing a kick, which was blocked by Hartt.”

The bout took place on the un-televised portion of the event, however you can catch the free replay of Hill’s fight against Hartt on UFC.com.

Of lesser concern, the loss drops Hill’s professional record to 2-2, including a 1-1 mark in the UFC.
