UFC light heavyweight Eric Schafer will be taking on Antonio Mendes in the UFC’s debut event in Dublin, Ireland. Initially, Mendes was slated to take on Andre Gusmao on the card, however Gusmao was pulled from the event for unspecified reasons. UFC 93 will be taking place at the O2 Arena on January 17th.
Schafer is looking to follow up his impressive submission win over Houston Alexander at “UFC Fight Night 15” back in September. He currently holds a 10-3-2 professional record, however has won three consecutive UFC bouts.
Mendes lost to Thiago Silva in his Octagon debut at UFC 84 in May. The Brazilian currently holds a respectable 15-3 record, and will look to get his career back on track in his bout against Schafer.
The UFC had already announced the five televised bouts for the card, so this matchup will take place on the event’s undercard.
