Bellator Fighting Championships has just announced the signing of former two-time NCAA heavyweight wrestling champion Cole Konrad.
Konrad only has a 2-0 MMA professional record and is most known for his wrestling prowess, as well as being UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar’s training partner.
“I’m excited to sign with Bellator,” Konrad said about the signing. “It’s a great opportunity to fight for a great company and I’m just really excited for what the future holds with this company.”
Konrad confirmed the signing after beating Joel Wyatt via TKO at the Matrix Fights event on Saturday night. Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney happened to be in attendance watching his potential star in action.
“Cole Konrad brings some great characteristics to the table that could make him a force at heavyweight,” Rebney said about his newest acquisition.
This may not seem like a big signing, but there’s a lot of hype surrounding Konrad within the MMA community and could be the horse that Bellator rides to becoming a big time mixed martial arts promotion.
