Nate Marquardt will be making his return to the Octagon at UFC 95 to take on up-and-coming Wilson Gouveia. This could very likely be a top contender bout, with the victor earning a shot at Anderson Silva’s middleweight title.
Marquardt is one of the top contenders in the 185-pound division. His stand-up game looked particularly sharp in his last UFC outing, as he knocked out Martin Kampmann in the 1stRound at UFC 88.
Since his loss to Silva at UFC 73, he has been on a mission to get another crack at the champ and prove that he is a much better fighter than what he showed that night.
“The desire for a rematch with Anderson Silva is obvious, and it’s a great desire of mine,” said Marquardt. “I really feel like I didn’t fight the way I wanted to fight. I just didn’t show up that night. When I was sticking with my game plan, I was winning the fight. I went away from that, and he took advantage of it. The next time we fight, it will be a war and I can’t wait for the opportunity.”
Gouveia is coming off of an impressive win over Jason MacDonald at “The Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale” last week. He knocked out the Canadian in the 1stRound, and has now won six of his last seven bouts.
