UFC president Dana White has confirmed his organization will hold an event on April 17th to go head-to-head against “Strikeforce: Nashville.”
A potential card on the 17th would be one week after “UFC 112: Invincible,” and the seventh Zuffa, LLC fight card hosted between in March and April (5 UFC and 2 WEC).
Here’s an excerpt from the Wrestling Observer’s report:
Dana White confirmed today that UFC is running a show on April 17th, head-to-head with the announced Strikeforce show on CBS. The event would air most likely on Spike TV. The Wanderlei Silva vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama match is not the main event. The only thing confirmed is they are trying to finalize a Matt Serra vs. Mike Swick semifinal fight today.
With the UFC having their roster back at full strength, it appears they want to stick it to their MMA counterparts and really pin them behind the eight ball.
CBS’ primetime broadcast of “Strikeforce: Nashville” will feature three title fights, however company golden boy Fedor Emelianenko will not appear.
Here is how Strikeforce’s card currently stands:
Antwain Britt vs. TBD
Shinya Aoki vs. Gilbert Melendez (Strikeforce Lightweight Champion)
Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal vs. Gegard Mousasi (Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion)
Dan Henderson vs. Jake Shields (Strikeforce Middleweight Champion)
