Former UFC welterweight top contender Jon Fitch has been relegated to face Akihiro Gono as a non-televised undercard bout at UFC 94. Initially, Fitch was tentatively slated to face Gono as one of the main bouts, however the organization decided to put the light heavyweight bout between Stephen Bonnar and Jon Jones in its place.Perhaps it was a strategic move by the UFC to try and get Bonnar, the former “Ultimate Fighter 1” finalist back on the UFC radar, or could there still be some ill will between the two sides after Fitch was released from the organization for a brief 24-hour period?

Last month, the UFC released Fitch after he refused to sign a lifetime licensing agreement for the UFC’s upcoming video game, “Undisputed.”

Fitch was reinstated after he reached out to UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta and ultimately signed the agreement.

The January 31st event will be headlined by one of the most anticipated MMA fights in history, as welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will be defending his title against BJ Penn at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Here is the finalized lineup for this monumental event:

Preliminary Bouts:

Dan Cramer vs. Matt Arroyo
Jake O’Brien vs. Christian Wellisch
John Howard vs. Chris Wilson
Manny Gamburyan vs. Thiago Tavares
Akihiro Gono vs. Jon Fitch

Preliminary Bouts:

Clay Guida vs. Nate Diaz
Karo Parisyan vs. Dong Hyun Kim
Stephan Bonner vs. Jon Jones
Thiago Silva vs. Lyoto Machida
BJ Penn vs. Georges St-Pierre (UFC Welterweight Champion)
