Most MMA purists would argue that tonight’s “WEC 47: Bowles vs. Cruz” event in Columbus, Ohio will be significantly better than the past few UFC shows. If watching four of the planet’s sickest bantamweights slug it out isn’t enough, I know a perfect way to make the scraps much more interesting …

Here are the latest WEC 47 betting lines:

Preliminary Bouts:

Scott Jorgensen -500 vs. Chad George +350
Chad Mendes -260 vs. Erik Koch +200
Danny Castillo -170 vs. Anthony Pettis +140
Leonard Garcia -450 vs. George Roop +325
Fredson Paixao -300 vs. Courtney Buck +220
Ricardo Lamas -260 vs. Bendy Casimir +200

Main Bouts:

Karen Darabedyan -260 vs. Bart Palaszewski +200
Deividas Taurosevicius -145 vs. LC Davis +115
Javier Vazquez -210 vs. Jens Pulver +165
Miguel Torres -350 vs. Joseph Benavidez +250
Brian Bowles -260 vs. Dominick Cruz +200

Ngo-Stradamus is feelin’ the underdogs:

Although there’s a reason Torres and Bowles are heavy favorites, laying some dough on the ‘dogs wouldn’t be the worst of ideas. Torres hadn’t lost in almost six years when Bowles jacked his strap at WEC 42, so all of the pressure’s on MMA’s sweetest mullet to prove he can bounce back like all true champs do.

The WEC didn’t do him any favors as Benavidez is one of the division’s top up-and-comers, although he too is coming off a convincing loss. It was a costly L for Benavidez as it not only was his first pro blemish, but he lost his shot at the crown as Dominic Cruz now finds himself in a 5Round affair.

Speaking of Cruz, +200 against Bowles in his first title defense is pretty tempting as well. It’s always tougher to defend the belt than win it, and since Bowles has yet to test those waters … why not – especially since Cruz looked like such a stud in his trouncing of a very talented Benavidez in his last outing.
