Former WEC Champs Miguel Torres and Brian Bowles Issued Medical Suspensions

In a “shocking” revelation, the Ohio Athletic Commission has suspended seven “WEC 47: Bowles vs. Cruz” fighters for injuries sustained during their respective scraps this weekend inside the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, including former champs Miguel Torres and Brian Bowles.

In addition to handing Torres his second consecutive loss, Joesph Benavidez also decided to slash Torres’ forehead with his elbow for good measure.

The owner of MMA’s coolest mullet Tweeted the gruesome picture (above) following his 2ndRound submission loss. Torres said he needed 20 stitches to mend the laceration and has since been placed on an indefinite suspension that will require a doctor’s clearance before returning to the cage.

Former WEC bantamweight champ Brian Bowles may have broken his right (punching) hand in addition to losing his 135-pound belt to Dominick Cruz on Saturday night, but thankfully his left paw was in good enough shape to take a picture of it and Tweet it to the MMA world:

Bowles has also been suspended indefinitely and must receive clearance from an orthopedic doctor before he comes back.

Newly-crowned bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz was also suspended indefinitely until he received medical clearance for a broken hand. Although Cruz does own a Twitter account, he opted not to Tweet a pic of his injury.

Here’s a rundown on the rest of the WEC 47 IR, courtesy of MMAWeekly.com:

Chad George suspended for 60 days and must get medical clearance prior to his next fight

Chad Mendes suspended 60 days due to a cut he suffered in the fight

Danny Castillo (violent head-kick KO loss) – 60-day suspensions for precautionary reasons

Courtney Buck (submission loss) – 60-day suspensions for precautionary reasons

Bendy Casimir (knockout loss)- 60-day suspensions for precautionary reasons
