The WEC has announced that they will be holding their first ever event in Corpus Christi, Texas on March 1st. WEC 39 will feature two title bouts, including WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown making his first title defense against Leonard Garcia. WEC welterweight champion Carlos Condit will also be taking on Brock Larson as the co-main event.

Brown is currently riding an eight-fight winning streak, including his 1stRound TKO of WEC golden boy Urijah Faber at WEC 36 in November.

Since the upset, the American Top Team fighter has been recovering from a torn rib cage that he suffered during the bout. The injury caused him to miss 4-6 weeks, however he will be fully headed in time to take on the Jackson Submission trained fighter.

Garcia, thought by many as the division’s top contender, is coming off a dominating performance against former UFC champion Jens Pulver on the same card in November. He showed a sharp and powerful stand up game, knocking out the MMA veteran in the 1stRound.

Condit already successfully defended his title against Larson at WEC 29, however Larson has rebounded nicely from that loss to earn himself another shot at the strap.

Since their bout in August of 2007, Larson has won three consecutive bouts, including his 1stRound TKO victory over Carlo Prater at WEC 35.
