For six years, three men have tried to put together a fight that seemed destined to never take place. Whether it was a loss to Quinton Jackson, bad business decisions or plain bad luck, Wanderlei Silva and Chuck Liddell’s paths were headed in the opposite direction.
UFC 79 was the culmination of Dana White’s work to have the best fighters fight one another, something that boxing has failed to do over and over.
“Everything that everybody thought that fight would be, it was,” White said following UFC 79.
Even in losing, there’s no doubt Silva will be around the UFC for a while.
“The three rounds of Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva was awesome,” White continued.
With the win, Liddell has put himself back into the UFC light heavyweight title picture.
Silva, on the other hand, has gained the U.S. fans he’s always wanted but never had the chance to earn.
