Following UFC 93, it was announced that there were two “Fights of the Night,” although fans may have seen it differently. The pre-event favorite to win the award, Marcus Davis vs. Chris Lytle, lived up to the hype as both stood by their gentleman’s agreement to stand the entire fight and bang. This earned both an extra $40,000. It was the second “Fight of the Night” that was most surprising.
The re-match between UFC Hall-of-Famer Mark Coleman vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua also earned “Fight of the Night” honors. However many were disappointed with the bout, mainly because of Rua’s lackluster performance that saw him barely defeat a 44-year old fighter that was gassed out in the first round.
Also being awarded $40,000 in bonus money were Dennis Siver, who took home “Knockout of the Night” honors in his un-aired bout against Nate Mohr, and Alan Belcher, who took home the “Submission of the Night” award after using a guillotine choke to ruin Dennis Kang’s Octagon debut.
