It will be the battle of the wrestlers as former UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk will be taking on Frankie Edgar at UFC 98 on May 23rd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Both fighters enter this bout among the elite in one of the UFC’s deepest divisions.
The fight was first reported by MMAMania.com, who confirmed the bout with sources close to Sherk. Both fighters have agreed to the bout, with fight contracts and an official announcement to come shortly.
After pulling off a unanimous decision victory over Tyson Griffin in his last Octagon bout at UFC 90, Sherk seems to be back to his old form. Another solid win or two against the division’s top contenders could have him back in a title bout shortly.
Edgar was one of the division’s fastest rising stars before he suffered a minor setback at the hands of Gray Maynard in April. However, the feisty Jersey boy rebounded nicely from his only professional loss to defeat Hermes Franca this past July.
