December 29th 2007 was a historic night for the UFC and MMA fans worldwide. We finally saw the historic meeting between Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell and Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva and the fight did not disappoint, however we did see something that we do not see from the “Iceman” on a regular basis which were the two tackling take-downs that he landed in the fight.

Sherdog confirmed with Chuck’s long time trainer and friend JohnHackleman that he had brought in a former silver medalist wrestler to work with Chuck on his take-downs. Hackleman went on to explain that the take-downs were to be used later on in the fight to isolate Wanderlei’s striking ability and secure points. Chuck has always been known to be a sprawl and brawler more then willing to exchange punches with the best of the UFC are we seeing a change in the “Iceman” due to his last two devastating losses to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Keith Jardine. Will we see a more cautious Liddell in the future and is that really what MMA fans want? Only time will tell.
