As expected, Strikeforce has officially announced that “Strikeforce St. Louis: Heavy Artillery” will indeed take place inside the Scottrade Center on May 15th.
A pair of heavyweight scraps will headline the Showtime broadcast as former UFC heavyweight champ Andrei Arlovski will make his Strikeforce debut against up-and-coming Antonio “Big Foot” Silva, and champ Alistair Overeem will headline the show in a non-title fight against Brett Rogers.
Overeem holds a dominant 32-11 MMA record, however this will mark his first Strikeforce appearance since whooping Paul Buentello to capture the open heavyweight title back in November 2007.
He’s since fought outside of the promotion on seven separate occasions.
Rogers stakes claim to a 10-1 professional record and has finished in all of his wins. Unfortunately, Rogers attempted the highly ineffective face-to-fist defense against Fedor Emelianenko and wound up paying dearly for it in his last outing.
Arlovski, who just inked a multi-fight deal with the organization earlier this month, owns a respectable 15-7 pro MMA record, however hasn’t been seen in a mixed martial arts fight since getting put to sleep by the aforementioned Rogers last June.
Silva, one of the division’s most physically imposing fighters, holds a 13-2 mark, however was humbled by Fabricio Werdum in his last contest at “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers.”
