Former UFC lightweight top contender Hermes Franca will be withdrawing from his “UFC Fight Night 17” bout against Joe Lauzon on February 7th due a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Franca made the announcement yesterday on the Underground Forums.
“To all my fans: unfortunately, I am not (going to) be able to fight UFC 17 in Tampa Florida,” wrote the disappointed Franca. “I just tore my ACL on my right knee last Saturday. I think you guys deserve to hear that from me.”
Franca is coming off a win over Marcus Aurelio at UFC 90 just last month, however has lost two of his last three bouts.
The UFC has yet to make an official announcement of Fanca’s injury. With the event just 12 days away, it is unknown whether the UFC will reschedule Lauzon for another event, or find a last-minute replacement to face him at the USF Sun Dome.
Lauzon, the former “The Ultimate Fighter 5” contestant, posted a 2ndRound TKO victory over Kyle Bradley at “UFC Fight Night 15” back in September.
