Affliction Entertainment vice president Tom Atencio says that the rookie MMA organization is so pleased with the performances of their first two MMA events that a third promotion is already in the works. They are still in the preliminary stages of negotiations, and plan to reach out to the representatives of both Josh Barnett and WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko to headline the card.
“We’re going to have a third event,” Atencio stated. “It’s just a matter of when. Possibly in July (or) possibly in August. I’m just not really sure. We’re looking and we’re sitting down (and) trying to figure everything out.”
At Affliction’s “Day of Reckoning” event, Emelianenko knocked out former UFC heavyweight champ Andrei Arlovski in the 1stRound and Barnett earned a 3rdRound submission victory over Gilbert Yvel.
“That’s what I’m hoping for but right now I’ve got to sit down with these guys and figure everything out,” Atencio said of having Barnett face Emelianenko.
Barnett and Affliction were in talks to have him face the WAMMA champ at “Day of Reckoning,” however the two sides were unable to come to terms.
At the “Day of Reckoning” post-fight press conference, Barnett was open to fighting his friend, if they can work out the numbers.
“I don’t have a bout agreement,” Barnett said. “Nothing is signed. Nothing exists.”
