Following the Octagon’s electrifying debut on the Versus Network Sunday night, it was reported that “UFC on Versus 2” will take place August 1st in Oakland, California.
Jermey Botter of MMAHeavy.com was the first to announce the news via his Twitter account and MMAJunkie.com spoke with Versus representatives that confirmed that the 19,500-seat Oracle Arena in Oak-Town will host the event.
In addition, Versus posted an advertisement during the heavyweight bout between Cheick Kongo and Paul Buentello boasting of an August return.
“UFC on Versus: Vera vs. Jones” took place inside the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colorado on Sunday afternoon, the show marked a new partnership between the network and Zuffa, LLC, the parent company of the UFC and World Extreme Cagefighting.
The WEC has been on the sports station since 2007, however the majority of the UFC’s freebie shows have aired on Spike TV.
When the new deal was first announced, Versus was only committed to two live UFC events in 2010. There is no word if they intend to add more shows for this year, or how many the network will broadcast in 2011.
UFC 116 is expected to be jumping off inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 3rd, one month before “UFC on Versus 2” is slated to go down. That pay-per-view broadcast is rumored to feature heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar’s highly anticipated return.
