Just days before the UFC hosts their free Spike TV broadcast of “UFC Fight Night 17,” the organization announced that they have decided to upgrade the welterweight bout between Anthony Johnson and Luigi Fioravanti to the televised portion of the event.
Johnson avenged an earlier loss to Kevin Burns by defeating him at “The Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale” back in December with a devastating head kick in the 3rdRound that left Burns unconscious on the canvas.
Fioravanti has had an up-and-down UFC career, posting a 4-3 record inside of the Octagon. He defeated Brodie Faber via unanimous decision in his last UFC bout at “Fight for the Troops.”
This weekend’s free event lost a lot of its luster after lightweight Hermes Franca was forced to withdraw from his main event bout against Joe Lauzon due to a torn ACL in his right knee. It was only natural that the UFC would want to add Johnson’s dynamic style to the main bouts and generate additional excitement for the event.
Here is how “Fight Night 17” now shakes out:
Steve Bruno vs. Matthew Riddle
Nick Catone vs. Derek Downey
Rich Clementi vs. Gleison Tibau
Matt Grice vs. George Sotiropoulos
Jake Rosholt vs. Dan Miller
Rob Emerson vs. Kurt Pellegrino
Luigi Fioravanti vs. Anthony Johnson
Mac Danzig vs. Josh Neer
Denis Stojnic vs. Cain Velasquez
Joe Lauzon vs. Jeremy Stephens
